I am a colour pencil realism specialist, but don't let that put you off!
Despite going to Portsmouth Art College [Now a University] in the 80's to study Technical Illustration, a creative career was never on my radar. I left early, and instead got a job with Hampshire County Council. 27 years later I left the Council to spend time with my husband. It was only then that I rekindled my love of art. A career wasn't on my mind then either. I was drawing and painting only as a way to decompress and deal with the stresses related to my husband's ongoing battle with cancer.
I began commissioned work in earnest in 2019 and enjoyed working with dozens of clients while continuing to hone my skills and experiment with many mediums. I won some international awards along the way and began working with Brands like Derwent. I've been an Ambassador since 2021, a position that enables me to continue to grow and experiment, and in 2023 was proud to produce the artwork for their newly released 100 Inktense Pencil Tin.
My work is always colourful, mostly unusual and often complex. I don't theme my art, preferring to be completely free to be inspired by the complexities of the world around me. Though I specialise in colour pencil realism, I am always trying new things, different styles and mediums. I write a semi-regular blog where I discuss ideas and topics that interest me, a light-hearted monthly newsletter where I connect with people who are interested in my work and, starting in 2025, a monthly Colour Pencil Clinic for Leisure Painter & The Artist magazine.
I love being part of the artist community and always encourage others in their exploration of art and creativity. I teach in-person and online, as well as publishing written tutorials with Ann Kullberg and video tutorials for sale here. From 2025 I am also working in partnership with Bonny Snowdon Academy, where I teach members my techniques for detailed realism.
My husband is no longer with me, but I am so grateful he brought me back to my creative self.
